With the current pandemic crisis showing no signs of slowing, many businesses across the nation and the world are asking themselves how to best conduct their day-to-day duties safely. Customers are similarly asking whether or not it is safe for them to engage with businesses – from restaurants, to hair salons, to moving companies. The reality is that some people need to move, and moving companies are essential businesses that are mostly taking health and safety precautions seriously. If you are concerned about your moving day COVID risk, you can follow these 5 steps to keep moving day safe.

1. Social Distance – we have all gotten used to this basic safety practice, but on moving day with extra people in the home, it is especially important to remain six feet apart.
2. Set up a Handwashing Station – many moving crews will come equipped with hand sanitizer, but hot water and soap does the job more thoroughly. Set up a sink in your home and allow movers to wash their hands for 20 seconds upon arrival, and throughout the moving day process. Use paper towels for drying rather than sharing a hand cloth.
3. Sanitize High-Traffic Surfaces – be sure to wipe down surfaces that get a lot of attention such as doorknobs, faucets, and countertops.
4. Wear a Mask, and Request That Your Movers Do Too – depending on your location, masks may or may not be mandatory. If they are not, you are more than welcome to request that your moving crew wears masks on moving day.
5. Do Not Invite Friends/Family Members Over – moving is an exciting event and often people will invite their friends and family members over to help them pack, organize, and oversee the move. Limit your exposure by avoiding all unnecessary contact leading up to and on moving day.
